Castles On The Rhine

Today we travelled along a section of the Rhine that was very popular with castle builders. We sat on the upper deck in unexpected sunny weather and watched as we passed numerous small towns and castles. It was like sailing through fairytale land!

The first castles we saw were shrouded in fog.

A bit of artistic licence was taken with this one.

Each town we passed had churches and towers and houses that you just had to photograph.

We saw endless vineyards built on the steep slopes beside the river.

After our journey past the castles, we arrived at the town of Rudesheim. It seems to be a very touristy town but its old streets and buildings are very real and you can sense the history that flows through them.

In Rudesheim we visited a museum that had a vast collection of mechanical music machines. Some of them were hundreds of years old and had been restored to a functional state. It was a highlight of the trip for Marilyn.

On our walk back to the boat, we came across some geese that we'd never seen before. Since they had goslings, we stopped for photos.

As usual, dinner is the final entry before I fall asleep! If we keep eating like this for the next two weeks, we will definitely have to walk at least 10km per day!
