Soggy In Whitehorse

We have rarely had rainy days on our long trips. I think we are being paid back in Whitehorse! We woke up to a steady rain and it has continued all day. Luckily, we have our rain gear and we have walked all over the city today.
Here's Marilyn as we start our walk on the Millennium Trail that runs along the Yukon River at one end of town.

There's a Parks Canada site holding the famed S.S. Klondike paddlewheeler. There's an interesting story about how this ship and others like it helped open up the far north during the gold rush. This was one of the more interesting historic sites we've seen.

One of the more important jobs of the river boats was to carry liquor to the outposts they visited.

The rain continued... And we ended up at a church museum. Not my normal type of museum to visit but we were doing a bit of a trade off. I would go to the church museum and then we would go to The Dirty Northern Public House for lunch. The museum was about the history of missionary types who came to the far north at the time of the gold rush and later.

After spending a respectable amount of time in the museum, we went for lunch. The place wasn't open for lunch on Sunday!! Noooooooooo! Maybe we'll go tomorrow. We ended up at a great little place that served authentic Mexican food. I can say that because we talked to the chef/owner and he is from North Central Mexico. Marilyn started off with some official Mexican hot chocolate made in the traditional way.
Then I had Papas Con Chorizo which is home fries cooked with Mexican chorizo sausage along with fried eggs, refried beans and salsa rojas. It was the perfect rainy day lunch.

Marilyn went with Torrejas Del Pueblo which is the Mexican version of French toast topped with dulce de leche, bananas and pecans. We walked a lot after all this food, over 5k to be somewhat exact.

On our rainy walk, we found out how you know you're in the Yukon. You see more new snowmobiles stacked up in a store lot than you've seen in your whole life!

Then we found one of the many crafty, arty, souvenir type places. They had some excellent native artwork. We bought a small soapstone carved box.
They also had pretty neat glass fish. And there's Marilyn checking out the prints.

After going back to our room to dry out a bit and see who won the British Open, it was time for dinner. We wanted to check out another place that was on You Gotta Eat Here. This one is called Antoinette's and is a sort of fusion of Caribbean, Asian and Canadian flavours. We didn't meet Antoinette but her food was excellent.
Here's Marilyn's International Plate with curried chicken, spicy shrimp, mango salad and French lamb chops. You'll notice that the lamb is missing from the main plate. They forgot it and brought it out later. It was still good.

Here's the missing lamb chop. It was crusted with dijon mustard and panko I think.

I had a bacon wrapped pork tenderloin cooked in a wine reduction sauce.

Well, it's 10:30 and there is still daylight and the rain has stopped for now. We hope to do some serious hiking tomorrow if the weather is even slightly decent.
